Portraits of Grandma – Val Buckner

I frequently take trips up to Matanzas Inlet near Saint Augustine.  The beach here is absolutely gorgeous saturated with shells in areas closer to the inlet and the sand appears painted red which is caused by the ground up shells.  Its a wonderfully pristine location within a national park.  While photographing it would seem to be my main purpose to visit,  the real reason I go is its where I released my mothers ashes around 2 years ago.  I knew it was the perfect location for her.

On this most recent trip I brought my Grandma with me.  She and I had been talking of going up together for a long while and I was very happy that we managed to finally make it happen.  We walked a few miles to the location where I released my mom’s ashes, and we left flowers there for her as I always do.  Afterwards I took advantage of spending time with my grandmother in this special place by taking some portraits of her.  I truly love taking character and environmental portraits of interesting people and to say my grandmother has incredible character and is plenty interesting would be  an understatement.
