For years I’ve driven past this unfinished glass building on Interstate 4 near Altamonte Springs, never really knowing its full story. I know it’s been under construction off and on for at least 10 years and no one ever really knows when it is supposed to be finished. It apparently had even taken on the nick name the “I-4 Eyesore” for a long while until it was covered in glass. Researching it a bit, I found out that it is owned by a Christian television station and has been built entirely on donated money. Hence the reason it’s unfinished, while the owners collect more donated money to fund it’s completion.
For me it has always caught my interest as a photographer. The bottom half looks abandoned and unfinished while in contrast the upper half looks like a modern sky scraper encompassed by reflective glass. It particularly pops out of the sky when the sun is setting and reflecting off the mirrored surface of the building. Passing it by for years, I finally took a chance and made a special trip to go out and photograph it. Hoping for a beautiful sunset, I received exactly what I was looking for.
